Nigel Goldenfeld holds a University Swanlund Chair in Physics, is Director of the NASA Astrobiology Institute for Universal Biology, and leads the Biocomplexity Theme at the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology (IGB). He is a theoretical physicist with interests in evolutionary ecology, microbial metagenomics, biophysics, the origin of life, and biological complexity. He is a Fellow of American Physical Society and American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and is a Member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.
